About

My name is Zef Hemel and this website is about me and things I care about. Some people call it a weblog and so do I. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes it’s sad, sometimes it’s boring and doesn’t make any sense. Welcome to my world, enjoy your stay.

Very Brief Biography

I was born 22nd of June 1983 in Groningen, a city in the north of the Netherlands. I got my B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Groningen in 2005. In September 2005 I moved to Dublin, Ireland to do a M.Sc. course in Networks and Distributed Systems at Trinity College there. Begin September 2006 I moved back to Groningen where I studied English Language and Culture for a year. I got my master’s degree from Trinity College on December 15th 2006. Currently I’m a Ph.D. student at the Technical University of Delft.

My Interests

I started programming when I was 9 years old. I started lots of projects, the most well-known being YaBB. After that I started two more boards, one written in PHP which eventually never got released and then another one called KeyTopic, written in Java/JSP that is now discontinued. During KeyTopic’s developement, programming became a drag, it was not challenging anymore. I need challenges. Since then I have only done some little research projects of my own.

What I enjoy immensely is reading and writing about software engineering and technology. I love writing. I also am interested in linguistics and languages in general (I’m learning Polish at the moment).

And then there’s this other interest, my lovely girlfriend Justyna.
